3 tips for people who work in front of a screen all day

A lot of people end up stuck in front of a screen. Whether you’re working from home or in the office, even if you’re working elsewhere, you can end up sitting at a desk looking at your computer or tablet a lot. You might work in a shop using a till screen or use a laptop out and about as you’re meeting clients. It can be a little cumbersome and tiresome. If you run your own business, you want to give your best always. Some people cope fine with a screen; others struggle. You might have even considered some of these tips, but the other might be able to give you something new to try. Even if you don’t, you want to be productive; otherwise, you’ll have your manager breathing down your neck. Check out three tips for people who work in front of a screen all day.

When you get sucked into work, it can be easy to forget comfort. Easy to lose grip on how your back, hands, neck and shoulders feel. It’s only when the aches start do you notice. You’d be far more productive if you focused on being comfortable, as the aches and pains won’t set in and hurt your work output later. You’ll look for Dr Desai, a Hand Surgeon, to help the pain. Make sure you’re sitting at an acceptable level, eyes in line with the top of the screen for a start. Then you need to ensure your wrists are supported. If your comfort levels are on point, work will be a lot easier for you. It’s also essential to get the right chair. Some require neck rests, others just like the backrest. If you’re moving around and reaching for different things, ensure it’s a swivel on wheels so that the chair is doing the work and you’re not.

If you’re a business owner, you must stay at the top of your game in any industry. Doing so can involve stepping away from the screen from time to time. It can allow you to call contacts and suppliers, visit warehouses or business locations and take time to speak to people in person. Completing daily tasks is why business help can be so beneficial. It can involve asking a remote HR team to take care of your emails and calls and start pushing your products out on other platforms. Sure, it’ll cost you some money, but it’s certainly worth it, especially if you can build your business in the time you’ve gained for yourself. It would help if you also learned to look away. You don’t need to check your website metrics daily or your social media followers. Try and do this once a week instead. Discipline plays a huge part here.

The amount of people who don’t take breaks is obscene. Not only that, but many people will take their break in front of the screen. Try to get away from your desk. Go for a walk and unwind. Go and sit somewhere else to eat your lunch or grab a drink. It might be a breakroom or on a wall outside in the sun. Wherever it is, make sure it isn’t in front of the screen in your office. If you’re hard-pressed, take a phone with you and make some work calls that need to be made or do something else which doesn’t involve a screen. Getting breaks makes working easier because you’ll feel refreshed and ready to tackle issues and problems with a fresh outlook when you return to your desk. If you don’t take the proper breaks and are a business owner, your business will undoubtedly suffer. If you work for someone else, you need to raise this with your boss, or you’ll make a silly mistake or burn out.
