WINTER DIETARY TIPS FOR HEALTHY LIVING

winter dietary tips for healthy living

When the temperature drops and the days become shorter, it gets harder to maintain a healthy weight and stay generally healthy. The struggle is because our serotonin levels drop, and our bodies start to crave it from food instead of getting it from sunlight. You can overcome this dynamic by getting serotonin from exercise instead and eating light herby food to support your system. Below are some winter dietary tips to help you through.

EAT ONE MEAL-SIZED SALAD PER WEEK

The shops do not have the same variety of fruits and vegetables in the winter. You have two options. You can switch your vegetable intake to root vegetables or work a bit harder to get the same nutrients.

When you eat one meal-sized salad per week, you win on both counts. It means you guarantee the rarer vegetable nutrients and eat them regularly enough to feel their benefits

If you make a large veggie-rich soup at least once a week, you can easily store it in Tupperware in the freezer. This means you will have instant access to healthy food whenever you need it during the week.

A stir-fry is an excellent idea for a meal during the winter months. Stir-fry dishes are budget-friendly and loaded with healthy vegetables and nutritional qualities. Make sure you have plenty of stir-fry veggie options around.

Suitable combinations of healthy foods include carrots, apples, pears, peas, celery, and pears. Make these a priority at least once daily, during your home-office break or as a light dessert.

Do you get a little bored of your drinks in the house during the lockdown or over winter? You might have water or fruit juice but want something a bit more interesting. Don’t go crazy and start drinking fizzy sodas; those will set you back.

Instead, look for healthy ways to make your drinks more enjoyable. You could add lemon or lime juice to sparkling water or use an exciting cordial for a late-night drink instead of wine. These choices will make all the difference to your weight and health.
